God’s promise to David was that his lineage would always have a ruler to sit on his throne and that his kingdom and house would endure forever. As we transition from 2 Samuel, we witness the ascension of Solomon, David's son, to the throne. It is Solomon who constructs the magnificent temple, and under his reign, Israel achieves unprecedented fame and glory. However, what began in splendor tragically ends in turmoil as Solomon’s heart turns away from God, leading to the division of the kingdom.

The books of Kings and Chronicles narrate this descent from glory, spanning the next 500 years of Israel’s history. Throughout these centuries, there are fleeting moments of revival and awakening, but the overarching theme is one of decline and eventual judgment. This period concludes with God's judgment on both the northern and southern kingdoms, resulting in the exile of the Israelites and a deepening longing for the ultimate Son of David who would fulfill all promises made.

Through this course, we will see that even in the midst of Israel's spiritual decline and the failure of the governing leadership, God is unwavering in His involvement with His people, guiding and sustaining them through it all. We will explore key moments where His power is vividly displayed, reminding Israel and the nations that He is the One True Living God. Through this course we will see evidence that even as we witness the spiritual and cultural decline today, God is powerful and in His Sovereignty, He is overseeing history. Ultimately, we will see how Jesus will be glorified through it all, offering us hope and assurance in His leadership and redemptive power.

Join me as we continue to walk through the “Road to Emmaus” series, uncovering the story of redemption and discovering Jesus in every book of the Bible.
